Alexa operated this niche law firm, dedicated primarily to the then-developing charter school industry. The firm (i) represented for-profit charter school management companies and nonprofit, model schools (including the Cousins’ Foundation East Lake Drew Charter School); (ii) served on the founding board of the National Alliance of Public Charter Schools; (iii) presented at Education Law Association, National Alliance, and Georgia Charter Schools Association conferences.

Sutherland recruited Alexa from law school. Alexa earned unprecedented respect as an associate. As a first-year associate, Alexa second-chaired the deposition of President Jimmy Carter and first-chaired depositions of several former Georgia governors. Following Alexa second-chaired two federal lawsuits against the State of Georgia. Alexa served as lead counsel and prevailed in what was then the most significant, special education case of first impression ever heard by the Eleventh Circuit. (link here to Mandy S. v.
